Most PvE players are almost as close-minded as PvP players. (that is a cool statement)
Anyway, AFAIK necros are usually considered 'batteries' in higher-level PvE and often reduced to being the BiP and well RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO. FYI: Minion necros pwn most missions and blood nukers have pretty nice on-target DPS.
EDIT: That is an odd way to censore wh ore.

they are only considered that way by people that do not have a deep knowledge of the game.
most people who have played a long time know how valuable a necro can be.
and aren't those the people you really want to play with anyway?

Ever seen N/Ws trying to tank when doing the ascension missions? In UW you DEFINITELY don't want to see it happening.
Next thing you'd hear is "OMGWTF! n00b monks!" and that culprit promptly leaving the game.

that combo may not be good in pve, but it owns in pvp
i have a N/W pvp char and he uses a sword, and i can take out warriors very easily. many times ive even taken out 2 warriors that were attacking me at the same time. i use blood, curses, and swordsmanship. i use enfeeble to weaken warriors, insideous parasite and spiteful spirit to make it so they do over 50 damage to themselves everytime they attack, along with doing 30 some damage to their nearby teamates, and healing me for around 20. i add life sifon for some degen and healing, i use plague touch to get rid of any conditions, vampiric gaze to do some damage at a distance, sever artery for degen without spending energy, and of course, res sig.

I think why most ppl dislike Mez are because most ppl that play Mez play them poorly. In my expierence it is a rare Mez indeed that knows how to play thier profession effectively. That being said tho... I love Mez! They are in fact my 2nd favorite profession(1st is Necro).

I have been working on a way to make a necro nearly invincible, after some testing, I might release it, yet it isnt a solo build :S requires quite a bit of help, mainly from another necro.

The problem with that build, if it is the same one I think it is, is that he has no means of attacking. Unless you take a smiting monk with you.

I definitely think and most of the monks / nukers in my party can attest to how much a good necro can bring to a FOW party.
My char is a N/Mo. I have superior runes of Blood and Soul Reaping. My main role for FOW is as a regen/support healer. I have 16 points in Blood and 10 in Heal.
So I can use BiP on any of our casters to give them almost instant energy. THen I can heal myself from the health sacrafice needed for BiP. I also do a lot of support healing. Skill Bar is as follows:
1) Blood is Power : 6+ regen energy for our casters
2) Demonic Flesh: Gives me a little over 600hp total to make sure I can last most battles
3) Mark of Subversion: Great to prevent those shadow monks from casting their heals and steals life at same time
4) Vampiric Touch: To help finish off targets who are low on health and give me some health
5) Heal Other
6) Healing Breeze - to cast on myself after blood sacrafice
7) Restore Life / Rebirth
8) Orison of Healing - to cast on myself after blood scarafice

My main character is a necro/mesmer and I can sympathise with the OP's languish. Subsequently I have spent far more time in uw/fow as a protection monk than any of my other characters put together.
This has given me more of an insight so it's best to look at this from a monk's point-of-view.
Going on... how should i say? not tactics as such... more group mentality:
A team of warriors and eles are going to be predominately damage focused, idea being the quicker the enemy dies the less damage it can do to us. In an ideal situation that would mean the monk has a frantic 3 minutes of healing then a nice pause to recoup while everything lays dead.
A team of necros and mesmers are running hex heavy, debuffs being the main focus and as such the battle may last a lot longer but the enemy would be doing significantly less damage or attacking slower. The monk in this instance will be using reduced but sustained healing, thereby keeping energy management under control, and providing no less survivability than the first example.
Both have validity on their own. Truely though, as many people can testify, an equal mixture of damage dealers and hexers can wreak havoc both quickly and with a minimum of fuss.
But don't take my word for it, ask your monk!

That's the only thing I fear when taking a necro into my group.

dont forget Blood is power! Ima necro myself i've been having probs too with getting a group for UW/FoW ( i recently got every necro skill! :P)

I used to play a Energy Bank Necro for the UW/FoW but I got tired of being locked into that role. Don't get me wrong I still take some type of energy regen, it's just to valuable not to(besides how would I ever get into a UW/Fow group w/o some type of regen?), but I stay away from being a full blown energy bank. It got boring.
I like to take spells that are somewhat a challenge to use and/or are different than the usual builds. I like taking a Death Necro(w/o pets) into the UW/FoW now. The fact that corspes are harder to find in the UW/FoW makes it more fun for me. I don't want the game to be to easy as well as I don't want to be just another cookie cutter Energy Bank.

WTF is everybody talking about, Necro`s are build for UW and FoW, I have no problems finding a group and I`m the 1 cursing all the enemy`s down there and helping the monks heal faster. If u can`t do all this then u are a Noob and should try to get better with your necro, then try FoW and UW. just taking some skills and good armor does not make u a good player. and necro`s must not attack the target that everybody calls cursing or using death magic on all the enemys is much better, I`m using Curses For Fow and UW and all the enemy worriors are no problem any more, I curse every 1 there and the group can focus on killing 1 by 1, it works great. And for ppl that don`t know, Necro`s are one of the best characters in this game and can help your team win easy(if the team is not a noob and talk to the ghost first). SO dont talk about having hard time finding a Team or dont want 1 in your team becouse this talks are for Superior Noobs.
And 1more thing a Necro should stay with his/her own skills and not other character`s skill U DON`T NEED THEM.
